About the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT):

The Indiana Office of Technology provides cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.

Salary:


This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $93,002. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Role Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Security Operations, the Deputy/Assistant IT Director will manage the people, processes, and technology related to the State of Indiana’s security posture.

The Deputy Director will oversee the development and management of teams for on-site, cloud, identity and access management, and data security to evaluate and optimize the effectiveness of security tools. The information will be leveraged to communicate and collaborate with other technology business areas and state agencies to prioritize and remediate vulnerabilities.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Lead and mentor a team of security operations staff responsible for managing security tools, and configurations, and working with other IOT teams to ensure consistency in design and support.
  • Provide tactical leadership for the current operational security day-to-day needs, understand strategic direction, and lead the team forward in adopting standard and repeatable processes and flows to remediate issues proactively.
  • Lead security-driven project initiatives to collaborate with other teams and ensure solutions are compatible with existing infrastructure and operational support models.
  • Work directly with the leadership, IT leads, business relationship management, and state agencies regarding operational security, including remediation of issues, communication of policy, working together to build better, and collaborating as trusted partners.
  • Identify, understand, communicate, document, and mitigate security risks.
  • Establish and maintain an off-hours support model for security operations including tooling support incident response participation.
  • Develop strategic metrics that can provide CISO, CIO, and agenciesa current state view of security. This includes monthly progress,inventory management, remediation of vulnerabilities, and implementation of security standardsincluding CIS, NIST, and Zero Trust.

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to positively influence culture change, work with resources that may or may not be direct reports,elicit adoption of forward-thinking concepts, influence change, and implement successful programs.
  • Ability to take visionto missionto goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and presentational, and able to collaborate across all levels of leadership, including customers and colleaguesin a highly political environment.
  • Prior experience understanding IT people, processes, and technologies.
  • Ability to mapcurrent state, conduct gap analysis, and generate strategies to lead teams, projects, and programs for implementation and organizational adoption.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferable, but industry experience and acquired relative skills are sufficient.
  • Able to understand technical and security-related concepts and then translate them into terms that all customers can understand and act upon.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to look at the ‘art of what is possible.’
  • Strong data analyticsskills with the ability to look at metrics, understand outcomes, and translate them into business storylinesand roadmaps.
  • Ability to look and react with a ‘glass half full’ mentality.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
