CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com)– Six ACC schools are ranked among the top 25, including three in the top 10, of the final Division I LEARFIELD College Directors’ Cup standings, announced Wednesday.

This marks the 22nd consecutive year that four or more ACC schools placed among the top 30 in the final LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings. North Carolina and Virginia have ranked among the top 30 nationally in each of the 30 years the Directors’ Cup has been conducted.

“The final 2023-24 LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings once again highlight the incredible achievements of our student-athletes, coaches and programs,” stated ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “Our conference once again proved its place as a premier conference with unparalleled athletic success, and we look forward to building on this momentum as we approach the new academic year.”

For the third straight year, the ACC won seven or more national titles with seven in 2023-24, the second-most among all conferences. The seven titles follow a league record of nine NCAA titles from last year in 2022-23.

Overall, the 23 national titles in league-sponsored sports over the past three years are the most of all conferences.

In the league’s 71-year history, ACC institutions have captured 189 team national championships and 428 individual NCAA titles, including 22 during the most recent academic year (16 women’s, six men’s).

Virginia led all ACC schools with a fifth-place finish, led by a fourth consecutive NCAA women’s swimming and diving championship and top-five finishes in men’s lacrosse, men’s golf, men’s tennis and women’s tennis.

North Carolina joined the Cavaliers among the top 10 in seventh place, followed by Notre Dame (10th), Florida State (12th), Duke (17th) and NC State (21st). The ACC’s six schools among this year’s top 25 are the second-most of any conference.

Clemson (31st), Syracuse (44th), Louisville (49th) and Virginia Tech (50th) give the ACC 10 institutions among the top 50 and were followed by Wake Forest (56th), Miami (67th), Boston College (68th), Georgia Tech (74th) and Pitt (80th).

The ACC currently sponsors 28 NCAA sports – 15 for women and 13 for men – with the addition of women’s gymnastics in 2023-24. No Autonomy Five conference sponsors more than 28 sports, nor does any peer conference sponsor more than 15 women’s sports.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) andUSA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in the NCAA Championships.
